Fear has a way of raising its head every now and then. Life throws new challenges in our way and keeps testing us to check if we succumb to the fear or if are we able to recognise and rise above it.
I've wrestled with many fears and over the last couple of decades I have worked really hard on myself to understand the genesis of those fears.
First, let’s talk about my fear of failure, one of the most common fears. This would show up in so many ways, including a fear of heights. Sometimes, I would wake up feeling as if I am falling off a height or tumbling downstairs. I grew up on the ground floor and today, funnily, today I live on the 49th floor.
While I have faced many failures, each time, I would feel as if the #world had come crashing down. Its only when I became an entrepreneur, did I realise that failure is nothing but stepping stones to success. By focusing on the lessons from each experience, I was able to grow as a person, rather than circle on the same spot, especially emotionally and fearing losing face.
In 2021, an email invited me to a trek in the #Himalayas. This is when I decided, it was time to conquer my fear of heights. While I had visited the mountains as a child but never trekked due to my fear of heights and lack of confidence, taking this #leapoffaith into uncharted territory was definitely beyond my comfort zone. The decision was spontaneous, born from a desire to break free.
Trekking taught me that life isn't a race of who gets there first, but a test of resilience and patience. #Resilience to weather the storms and patience to understand that life will always have its twists and turns, I simply have to keep going at my pace. And above all, I will never be alone, there will always be someone to lend a #helpinghand .
So, let’s embrace our fears, learn from failures, and trek towards #growth.
